Batman Begins QR

With The Dark Knight Rises coming out on Friday (or for me, Thursday night at midnight), I thought it’d be fun to look at the first two movies in the Christopher Nolan Batman Trilogy, so here’s the first…

Starring: Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine

Star Rating: ****

Thoughts: What a great way to reboot a dead franchise. After Batman and Robin, a lot of people were turned off when it came to Batman. Nolan made sure that was a thing of the past and made his version of the story of the Caped Crusader much darker than the previous four movies. If you haven’t watched this, you need to immediately, especially if you plan on seeing Rises.

Plants vs. Zombies QR

Star Rating: ****1/2

Thoughts: This is just a great game. Its so addicting that it should come with a warning label. The Adventure Mode features 50 levels, but that’s just the tip of the gameplay iceberg. Once you finish Adventure for the first time, you can go through it again using every single plant you’ve unlocked so far. There’s also the mini game and quick play modes and the Zen Garden, which is a quick and easy way to get coins for unlockables. Well worth the $2.99 tag in the App Store.

Starting tonight I’ll be doing QRs of iOS games for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The first few I’ll do are listed below:

  • Plants vs. Zombies
  • Fruit Ninja
  • Temple Run
  • Original Angry Birds
  • Zombie Swipeout

Starring: Johnny Depp

Star Rating: ***

Thoughts: I seriously don’t get the heat this has been getting. I think it was Tim Burton and Johnny Depp just doing what Tim Burton and Johnny Depp do: make weird movies that are entertaining at the same time. This gets me very excited to see Frankenweenie in the Fall just to see if Tim Burton has his stuff back for sure.

Chronicle was released back in February to alot of hype. All of the camera work is from a handheld camera and security cameras. It has a very cool premise, but I think it missed every chance of being entertaining.

Starring: Who cares

Star Rating: *1/2

Final Thoughts: Simply put, I think it sucked. A lot. The whole thing felt rushed. I was hoping the ending would save it, but it actually made the whole thing worse. The ending is the worst part of the whole movie, which is saying an awful lot. The over all story was bad. The acting was bad. The CGI was bad. I would love to slash this movie into bits, but I don’t like giving away spoilers. Do not watch it. Just don’t. There are way more entertaining ways to spend an hour and 24 minutes, like taking a 20 dollar bill out and flushing it down the toilet.

Shutter Island QR

Shutter Island was released in 2010. Some call it a horror movie, others a mystery, and still others a thriller. I say its a mix of all three
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio
Star Rating: *** (Good)
Final Thoughts: This movie is like Dream House, Inception, and a M. Night Shamalyan twist all rolled in together. I thought everything leading up to the Lighthouse was great and I would’ve given it another half-star, but the last 30 minutes kinda ruined that. I think they tried to put a little bit too much into the limited remaining time. It’s still a good mystery/thriller; if you like anything with a big twist or you liked Dream House last year, you’ll probably like this like I did
